Canon Information: Gran lives a normal life on Zinkenstill, a remote island in the Phantagrande Skydom, waiting for the day that he’ll be allowed to leave the island in order to search for Estalucia, a fabled island where his father said he was on. After a chance meeting with a girl named Lyria, he’s attacked by Pommern of the Erste Empire, a country hellbent taking control of everything in the skydom. This attack ends up killing Gran at first due to trying to protect Lyria, but is revived by Lyria via a life link. After that, they meet up with Lyria’s guardian, Katalina, and they end up on the run, thanks to Rackam helping. They end up defeating the Erste Empire as they collect pieces of what’s known as the Sky Map, the only main clue towards finding Gran’s father, as well as the power of the primal beasts, a race of beings that control vast amounts of power.
After the defeat of the Erste Empire, the old rulers of the Erste Kingdom regained their power, and the crew meets them for the first time, asking them for information on the next Sky Map piece. They are told multiple clues, and Gran and his crew start looking. However, Gran and crew are separated at each turn, and on each new island. Gran refuses to lose his head throughout it all, even while Lyria and Vyrn, the ones constantly at his side, are terrified. They manage to gather all the Sky Map pieces, only to be thrown into a battle with a primal beast that protects the very border between the skydoms.
They eventually cross into the Nahelgrande Skydom after a trek through the Grim Basin, a ‘wall’ between skydoms. There, Gran and crew are pulled into the war between Nahelgrande’s kingdoms of Idelva and Rhem, and the underlying strings that are being pulled by someone called the True King. By using a power-hungry man named Gilbert, the power of the Otherworld (the Sky Realm’s version of hell), and a weapon known as the Great Wall, the True King manipulated the truth and pulled all the strings in order to destroy Nahelgrande in a plot to unify the Sky Realm. The plot was foiled by the crew’s deed of destroying the Great Wall, but the True King simply retreated back to Istavion Kingdom in the Oarlyegrande Skydom, and the crew feel deep into the skies.
Once they wake up, Gran and his crew find themselves in the Edgelands, a place that borders the bottom of the skies, the Crimson Horizon. There, they are given a choice: either take their only path to escape or help a girl named Shitori rescue an Astral girl named Mika after hearing she was kidnapped. Gran, refusing to leave without helping Shitori, end up meeting up with old enemies Loki and Fenrir, Astrals who wants to use Mika’s power for his own crimes. It’s also in the process of saving Mika where Gran starts getting hints about his own existence, and how Lyria and Vyrn are two halves of a whole who can bring destruction to their entire world, as it is destiny. While Gran doesn’t show it, hearing that hurts him, but declares that he will fight against destiny, no matter what it may bring. But even with all that, they fail to save Mika, who is revealed to be an Astral who was the Great Wall’s maker. Gran and his crew are soon lifted out of the Edgelands, but end up stranded on an island.
While stranded, Gran is told more about his father’s history by Walfried, a man who travelled with him, and how he was tasked to take the power of the primal beasts, with Vyrn at his side. This shocks him both him and Vyrn, as Vyrn has always been by Gran’s side. However, he ends up learning that his father helped each primal beast, depending on what the primal themselves wanted, and Vyrn’s latent powers assisted him with that goal. Near the end of Gran’s father’s journey, they brought back Lyria to Phantagrande, and the rest is history. However, while Gran’s father is one who was given power by the gods, he tried everything to stop a singularity, a being that the entire world bends to, from appearing. In a cruel twist of fate, Gran became that very singularity that he was preventing. This truth throws Gran for a loop, unsure how to answer his final question: would he still go to Estalucia, knowing that his father would possibly be against his entire being. It took him a moment to reply, but his reply stayed the same: “I want to travel with everyone, no matter what destiny may bring. We’ll reach Estalucia no matter what.”
During the repairs of the ship, Gran’s mother was brought up by Walfried, but there was even less information about her than Gran’s father. All that he knew was that Gran’s parents were childhood friends, and that she was a kind, compassionate woman who came from a line of sky god worshippers. Then, golems start breaking into the Erste Kingdom, clearly sent there by a revived Erste Empire, backed by the Istavion Kingdom and the True King. This was only a cover up to release Otherworld solders into the Sky Realm, and in the process of stopping it, Lyria is transported to the Otherworld with half his crew, almost completely severing the connection between Gran and her. Despite knowing that Lyria was alive and the inability to do anything, he presses on to find the four Sky Map pieces needed to stop the True King.
By the time they manage to get the third piece, Gran and his crew are surrounded by Otherworlders. The leader, before they launch an attack, told the truth behind Lyria and Vyrn’s power. They are two main pieces in the war between the Sky God and Astral God, two gods that were split from one. The conduit of primal beasts allows one god to gain the power of the other and vice versa, and both gods needed a vessel to store that gained power. Once that vessel—Lyria for the Sky God, and Vyrn for the Astral God—were full, they would be devoured by their respective god and erased forever. This truth ties into Gran’s role as Singularity, as he is “the true victim” of the gods. Even so, Gran doesn’t give in to their demands, even as he starts to die due to the lack of Lyria’s life link.
In that space between life and death, his resolve of traveling with Lyria and Vyrn is confirmed once more by a woman and a dragon. Before his mind fades away completely, a light leads him forward, and bright blue hair graces his vision. Gran and Lyria are united once more, and there they confirm that they won’t be afraid of meeting their maker. Lyria and the other half of Gran’s crew manage to come back to the Sky Realm, with a Sky Map piece that was rumored to be lost. They manage to get the last piece needed, and they head to Oarlyegrande to face the True King at last.

TDM Sample 5 Questions:
Q1: You've been stranded on a desert island with only one standard-size travel suitcase. If you could only have 3 items in that suitcase, what would you want those items to be and why?
[ It takes Gran a moment or two to come up with a proper response to the question. He considers everything he'd need to make sure living was ideal. ] I would definitely bring a sword, for general survival, a piece of flint, for needed fire, and a sleeping bag, just so I don’t have to sleep while also getting dirty.
Q2: Tell us about a defining event in your life that you think influenced who you are today.
[ Again, it takes Gran a moment or two to actually respond to the question. But this time, his expression leans more into the unknown. ] The only one that really continues to stick out in my mind is meeting Lyria. It was a chance encounter, finding her in that forest, but… without her, I think I would have been blind to everything... and never have learned to protect that I care for the most.
Q3: What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
[ This question was almost immediately answered. ] Lyria, Vyrn, and the entire Grandcypher crew is my family! They’re the people who have gone through everything with me, who I know I can depend on if the situation calls for it.
Q4: Tell me about a time you were involved in a personal conflict (not a physical fight). What would you do differently to resolve it?
[ His face contorts into pain. This question was hard— and yet he knew the answer. ] I suppose it would have to be being forced to learn about the truth of my birth. About how my parents left me on Zinkenstill. I watched everyone around me grow up without family. A part of me wishes I could have told everyone how I felt, how lonely it was to not have anyone to call ‘mom’ or ‘dad’… Of course, I wouldn’t ever want to change my current life, and yet…
[ He stops just to process the best way to phrase his next words. ] Sometimes, part of me wonders why I didn't push more for answers. I wanted more answers, wring everything out of the ones who told me for information. But I suppose finding out for myself is better, in the end.
Q5: Do you have any regrets? If so, what are the biggest ones? If not, what is something you wish you had gotten to do back home?
[ The quiet has returned, and Gran is back to thinking about how best to respond. There were a lot of regrets: the lack of power he holds at times, the inexperience… there was so much, and yet… ] I wish we could’ve done more to save those in the Edgelands. No one should ever live down there, even if was meant to be a punishment, or an accident... Astral or not, no one deserves to live in that wasteland. They should be able to see the blue of the sky that I've learned to love so much.
